LaPolla FoamLok™ 500

FoamLok 500 (FL500) is a half pound density open cell foam that creates an air seal undetectable by human senses. FL500 is a 2-part spray applied polyurethane cellular foam plastic.  The product is sprayed on as a liquid, expands, and cures within minutes.  The major differences between FL500 open cell foam and FL2000 closed cell foam are as follows:

  • Aged R-value of 3.9 per inch of depth (closed cell is 6.2 (aged) per inch)
  • Vapor Barrier (Open Cell is not a vapor barrier)
  • Structural (open cell foam is soft like angel food cake; closed cell is a little softer than wood)
  • Less Expensive (more materials are needed to produce an "R" of Closed Cell)

Although FL500 is suitable for almost any use, our typical installs of this product include:

  • Residential homes
  • Areas where space is not an issue (i.e. attics - new and existing)
  • Sound attenuation
  • Closed walls

Our paper Open vs. Closed Cell Foam is a great source for an even more detailed comparison of the products.  Remember, if you're confused, just contact usWe work with these products every day!

Energsmart Lands "Green" Building Project at Daemen College

June 23, 2008

Energsmart received a contract today to insulate the new Center for Information, Research, and Community Programs at Daemen College.

The 45,000 SF, $10 million building is currently being constructed on the college’s campus on Main St., Amherst, NY.  The Center will be the first free-standing “green” building on a WNY college campus and will be LEED (Leadership in Energy Efficiency Design) certified.

“This center will consume a fraction of the energy that similar sized buildings consume and we’re proud to play such a major role in its construction with our insulation” said John Bartlo, President and CEO of Energsmart.

“The use of spray foam in such a high profile building gives foam the credibility it deserves and will hopefully open the eyes of all energy consumers to the value and return on investment that spray foam provides.”
