Foam insulation is clearly the most efficient insulation readily available to the residential and commercial market today. It has a higher initial cost than more frequently used insulation like fiberglass and cellulose, but the efficiency of those products are almost criminal compared to foam. Foam is typically 40% more efficient and pays for itself in 3-5 years. Today's foam insulation has a solid 30 year track record - it is not a "new" product as many people believe. The key to investing in foam is to understand the concept of payback. To make a good decision on the insulation used for your home or business (new or existing), it is imperative that you consider both the initial cost of the product and the ongoing costs you'll incur for gas, electric, etc. When taking into account the entire picture, foam is an easy decision.
Energsmart’s mission is to provide the most cost effective and comfortable insulation products to both the residential and commercial insulation market. In the last ten years energy prices have increased well above inflation. In the next ten, they are currently being sold on forward markets for similar increases, again, far above inflation. Below we show the average annual increases from July 1998 through July 2008 for the most popular home energy components:
- Natural Gas: 16.3% Annual Increase
- Heating Oil: 44.7% Annual Increase
- Electricity: 4.2% Annual Increase

For this reason we only install foam insulation, the most cost efficient and healthy insulation available in the market today. We refuse to sell fiberglass and cellulose due to their extreme inefficiency and health hazards.
Foam insulation is anywhere from 30%-50% more efficient than traditional fiberglass batt insulation found in homes today. Your experience within this range will depend on several factors, most important of which are the age and condition of your current insulation as well as your usage patterns for heating and cooling.
Foam insulated homes are also quite comfortable as they are air sealed, which prevents drafts, damaging moisture from the exterior of the home, and also allergens, and dust mites.
As an added bonus, foam insulation is great for the environment because it requires less non-renewable energy to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. What’s more, our insulation is made with annually renewable sources of energy from American grown sugar cane polyols (approximately 10% content).
