Ice and Snow Tell a Story

Here at Energsmart we try to look at the bright side of things. The weather this month has been awful. We’ve had several weeks of cold temperatures that have kept snow on our roofs and the ground. This is the perfect time to take a look at your roof and see what’s happening up there.

If you notice melt patterns on your roof or icicles, there’s a pretty good chance you’re losing the very expensive energy you use to heat your home. ICICLES ARE NOT NORMAL. At most you should see sporadic icicles only a few inches long. They are more common on the north side of a roof where the sun can’t speed up the melting.

From time to time we have prospective customers with massive ice problems tell us their heat bills “aren’t too bad.” I suppose everyone has a different opinion of what a “good” gas bill is, but one thing’s for sure, they could be spending less if they stopped the heat loss – usually with insulation. People also might be hesitant to call an insulation company because their friend or relative told them there isn’t a way to fix the problem.
